Spells of the Sea ReceivesNational Endowment for the Arts Award

We just received some great news and I had to share it here. Metro Theater Company was just awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant of Ten Thousand dollars for the production of Spells Of The Sea! We are thrilled.

Metro Theater Company, a 501C3 non-profit arts organization, started the process for this grant last year. As part of the application we provided information about the story, author, sample music, and even an artistic statement.

Part of Gwenny’s response includes,

"I believe that now more than ever it is important to uplift new and underrepresented voices such as my own within the theatrical community.  Throughout my career as a musical playwright, I have unfortunately faced microaggressions in the rehearsal room and have had experience where I felt like I did not have a voice in certain creative processes.

As a woman of color, I believe that uplifting voices like mine is especially important to the progress of the theatrical community and would be a significant step in the right direction in regard to having marginalized voices heard and represented in theater."

Congratulations Metro Theater Company. What a wonderful vote of confidence in this new work.
