Othello

Drama League Awards

Nominee — Distinguished Performance Award (Denzel Washington)
Nominee — Distinguished Performance Award (Jake Gyllenhaal)

A NOTE FROM MEGAN ANN

At first blush, Othello’s themes of jealousy, manipulation, deceit, and murder may not immediately engender feelings of family-friendly. I get that.

In the best ways, though, Shakespeare often teaches us by showing us what not to do. Don’t act on assumptions without proof. Don’t ignore trusted advice. Don’t allow jealousy to consume our minds.

The reverse are powerful lessons for people of any age. Seek truth. Surround yourself with honest people. Be an honest, trustworthy person. I can get behind all those themes. Plus: Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal. And, director Kenny Leon. This show had a stellar cast and I’m grateful and humbled that Chimney Town could be a Co-Producer.
